Satsuma Pitcher

Satsuma Pitcher

65.00

Created for export in Japan from the 1940s, this dishware tells a pretty interesting story. Lusterware is made by mixing metal oxide into a clear top glaze, producing an iridescent effect. Satsuma ceramics come specifically from the Satsuma region of Japan in what is modern-day Kyushu. Satsuma was originally done in very plain decorations but the Japanese soon realized that more ornately decorated pieces were popular with Western tourists and exporters.  6 3/4Wx6 1/2H
